Mission

To build a world-class academic centre dedicated to helping Dyslexic students in Kenya, enriching local community members by increasing their awareness of Dyslexia, and building an international community for the purposes of sharing information.

Vision

In partnership with education authorities (Ministry of Education), teachers and medical professionals, we will establish an educational accommodation system throughout Kenya that will create equity and opportunity for neurodiverse children to receive an education from Nursery/Pre-primary to the highest levels of education.

Our History

The Rare Gem Talent School opened its doors to students on 3rd January 2012. It was founded by dyslexia Organization Kenya. Its main aim was to support students who have dyslexia. At the time, there were no reference schools for students who have neurobiological conditions such as dyslexia. Students with such conditions were being ejected out of regular schools because of their poor academic performance.

Dyslexia Organization did a robust awareness that brought up questions about support of students with learning difficulties in these regular schools. There was a dire need for a school that would accommodate such students. This is how Rare Gem Talent was started.

In 2016 our first 8 students sat for their KCPE, through our push KNEC acknowledged the students with dyslexia and therefore they were given some accommodation during the exam. 2017 We started secondary school with the students who did their KCPE in Rare Gem. In 2020 our 8 students in four sat for their KCSE, they were also given some accommodation by KNEC. All the 8 students were accepted in different colleges to pursue technical courses of their dream.

Today we are serving 213 students from Pre-primary school to form four, we have both competence based curriculum (CBC) and the   8-4-4.

Up to today we have empowered more than 5000 students some who come for assessments at our school and go, some who come to the school for a period of time and join mainstream schools after they achieve reading and some who have done their National examination in our school.

Our Approach

We give differentiated instructions given to individuals or a small group of students grouped according to their abilities. This helps us address individual needs. We customize multi-sensory and structured literacy approach to strengthening the curriculum focusing on how to benefit our individual students.

This approach excites students with progress students begin to understand themselves.

Our keen understanding that reading, writing and comprehension are the fuel that drives all the academic skills, we go to every length to ensure that all our students achieve reading through:

  • Fluency
  • Decoding
  • Spelling
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension
  • Composition and
  • Study skills

Our Core Principles

  1. Provide opportunities for our students to experience success all round, in class and outside class in non-academic skills.
  2. Use structured Multisensory Approach to reach out to individual needs.
